Jim GoldieParticipant
I agree, it was a good fun night, some sprints and faster sections along the way. I cannot wait for some heat when we are out on the road.
Jim GoldieParticipantHappy to do either of the rides, different roads are always a bonus. As others have said, the away trip is doable in one day.
Jim GoldieParticipantnames so far
Dougie – a possible
Mikey – Interested
Colin G – Yes
Martin Shields – tempted
Callum – Yes
Colin B – Yes
Scott G – Yes
JoBo – Yes
Jim G – YesJim GoldieParticipantSo at present we have –
22nd Jan 12 noon – 2pm
29th Jan 12 noon – 4pm
26th March 12 noon -2pmLet me know what works for you and we can start to secure some of the sessions above for you –
Costs are £120 ph. for kids – £160 ph for Adults
Dependant on what you want us to coach the general numbers are 16 people per session – we don’t mix adults with kids – kids are 8 – 15 yrs – Adult 16s – ? 🙂
Above is the update from Glasgow Life operations for the velodrome.
I would suggest that we go with the 29th January at 4pm and take a two hour session. Does the club pay this, or is it over to the members to pay individually. Do I need to put the proposal to the committee? As I say above, I can do the paperwork and sort things out at the Emirates, I just need to understand the Fullarton processes for any payments.
I will do a head count and update later today on numbers who have expressed an interest.
Jim GoldieParticipantThe terrain would be mixed, a bit of everything to help increase bike handling and balance.
Depending on numbers and type of riders we can follow easy trails like the one at the back of the paper mill, or we can hit the ice house loop in Eggie park
Jim GoldieParticipantI am a possibility, I may have to work, but trying to do a bike ride for a change
Jim GoldieParticipantI plan to be there for the full ride. I will ride over for the start and leave a bag at your place. Thanks
Jim GoldieParticipantIt is always worth thinking about developing the people in the club. We have some people who are good at welcoming new riders, but there are workshops and courses that train riders to be leaders, giving them some skills to work with groups and individuals to enhance the experience of riding with the club.
The Tuesday evening recovery ride is an ideal opportunity to develop new members. If we had a few Ride Leaders, who are responsible for this ride and also for welcoming any new rider, this would increase the membership and profile of the club. It would need some thought on the logistics around this type of ride.
Coaching is always something that clubs cry out for, is there anyone who is interested in being a coach and helping riders develop their skills and technique? This would have to be linked back to what they would do for the club membership as part of a planned delivery, but it is an area that could benefit all interested members. I am a Level 2 coach in Road and TT, BMX and Cyclocross, which did work out quite well last winter with a few of us getting out for some spins in the woods and trails, but more of this sort of thing does pay off linger term for members and the club.
I do like the idea of discounted kit and casual wear, but given our biggest asset is our people, is developing them worth more to the club?
Jim GoldieParticipant8am start this Saturday from Loans. Hope we get a good number of us out again. Cold, but dry is the forecast.
Jim GoldieParticipantShould be a good day, a cold day, but a good day.
Jim GoldieParticipantChris Sheilds form Kilmarnock, one of the guys that does the Crit during the summer, is also doing the Etape as well. I will say to him about joining us, that would be a group of 12 riders.
Jim GoldieParticipantHi All
I have been collating the names of everyone registered for chase the sun. I have got 13 names, 11 of which are Fullarton members.
Whilst in discussion with a few o the guys at the weekend, I thing a whats app group for organising rides in the new year would be good. It would also be worthwhile having a catch up to look at the logistics of getting o Whitley Bay and the support needed. This will include costs incurred in doing the event, vehicle hire and costs for support person/s.

Jim GoldieParticipantI have just entered, now I need to ride my bike more than once a week. As I said above, I am happy to lead a ride around what may be the course, they do change it from time to time.
Course:
Start at the clubhouse, head around the outside of the playing fields, with the route going between pitches.
Two or more hurdles, which are too high to bunny hop, a guy on a MTB tried to hop the lower hurdles last year and failed
Across some rough path in the corner of the playing field, up onto the path underpass (have to dismount here)
Left onto the grass, which can be very soft, up the hill to the flyover (dismount again and run)
Across the bridge, down the other side, under the bridge and a sharp right up the steep banking
Two laps of the moor, including the sharp hills in the middle, which are rideable, if you can carry enough speed and the ground is very firm.
Single track can be difficult, with some ruts which are hidden by grass and whin bushes
On the second lap, you leave the moor and do the reverse of the outward lap.The course is roughly five mile, between 26 and 36mins of hard work, depending on how fast you are. The fastest runners will be around 26-28mins over this course as the softer ground does not slow them as much.
My top tip, if you want a smooth ride, you need to get past the runners as early as possible, as the single track is not wide enough to pass anyone. The big issue in doing this is over cooking your start.
Jim GoldieParticipantI may do it, I have done it about six times over the past decade, having ran it a good number of times when I was a runner. It is a great wee event and fun, if you ignore the normal pain of cycling.
The course is around five mile, with two longish runs on tarmac for the cyclists, over the flyover and under the otherside and up the steep climb. Most of the moor is rideable, with the exceptions of the two hills, which are very tough to get up, given short run ins to them.I was round the moor yesterday and it is very overgrown, Irvine AC will cut it back in the week before the event.
If anyone is looking to see the course, I am happy to lead a ride around the moor and show the hurdles that you have to get off for, given their hieght.
Jim GoldieParticipantEntered and also booked a room at the Travelodge linked above. £35 for the night, it has a bar/ cafe attached to it and is about 3mile from the start point.
