Gordon GParticipant
Hello All,
I’m getting very few FWCC members doing the Monday night Zwift Meetup.
I thought there was a bit of interest expressed in this at the AGM. Are there reasons for people not doing it or just a general apathy at this time of year? Does the date and time not suit?
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantApologies Colin, Just seen this message. Also, apologies to everyone for not being on the course tonight. I’ve had about a year of trouble free Zwift but at the weekend there were a couple of wee glitches.Tonight, Zwift wouldn’t launch and kept coming up with an error even after restarting and rebooting etc. I quickly uninstalled it and reinstalled and it kept stalling at ‘Updating’.
Anyway, I made sure I got rid of everything Zwift and reloaded from scratch and finally got it running… unfortunately I missed the 30 minute cut-off for getting on a course and joining the group.
By then the notion had gone but I managed 40 minutes.
I hope the ride went ok and a few of you got some decent exercise 🙄.
Here’s hoping next week will be more successful.
Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantAye, often the case when you say ‘steady’ one person’s steady can be quite different from another. Always difficult when the riders at the front can’t see a rider getting dropped as they are off the list of riders on the right.
I’m not too bothered though. If riders are feeling good I’d rather they go as fast as they want and get the training. My main worry is a rider getting dropped on their own. When it happens early in the ride it is often a system glitch so never sure whether to go back and help. Russell had something odd going on last night. When I rode with him at the finish he was showing as 13-16 seconds behind and I’m not sure he was getting any draughting effect of sitting in the bunch.
I suppose Zwift isn’t quite perfect but it is good.
Getting a couple more riders each week as the winter progresses. I’ll keep it going and hopefully everyone will get something out of it.
If anyone else wants an invite, remember to ‘follow’ me and accept the invite when you get it.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantI’ll maybe pick Mont Ventoux one of these weeks Philip… loads of downhill… after climbing that one 😄.
Not sure what is going on with your connection Colin B. If your Internet connection is good then it is possibly the Bluetooth or ANT+ signal transmitting between your trainer and laptop. I had some intermittent problems last year that were resolved with an ANT+ dongle on a USB extension placed near to my Wahoo trainer. Been fine since. Also, could make sure you don’t have other Bluetooth enabled devices (mobile phone) nearby.
I hope your ok Colin G.
Aye, remember to accept the invite Martin 😁.
The numbers were up a bit this week. Good to see. Anyone else looking for an invite let me know. All welcome.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantWell done both. Hopefully a few more next week. A few riders on holiday yesterday.
Gordon GParticipantHi Natalie,
I’ll get an invite out your way for this coming Monday, 11/10/21,7pm.
Anyone else wants to ride just ‘Follow’ me on Zwift and I’ll send an invite your way.
Remember to accept the invite and get riding on a course at least 10 minutes before start.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantIt’s not looking like there is enough response to this. It’s probably too late in the year now.
We’ve got a calendar of club league events for next year starting with the traditional Prologue toward the end of March.
Will post these dates soon.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantAye, I’m planning to do Monday evenings at 7 through the winter. Maybe the occasional weekend one if the weather really crap.
Gordon GParticipantHi Martin,
I’m not sure about the powertap. Does it put out an ANT+ or bluetooth signal. If so, I’d think it would pair with Zwift.
Perhaps worth googling your powertap model with Zwift to see what it comes up with.
I used my Stages power crank for a while but you don’t get the feel of the gradient changes or when you are sitting in the bunch as opposed to working on the front. The Smart trainers are far better. I bought a Wahoo Kick Core. I had a few issues with the first one but they quickly sent a replacement and it has been great.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantHmm! Only 6 so far. Looks like a lot of people away. We can discuss at Thursday’s committee meeting. Perhaps we can try for a week or two later or maybe leave it till next year.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantAye the speed speed did pick up a wee bit in the last couple of miles Philip. Shame about the drop out…. always frustrating when this happens. You were going well though.
Colin B, I’m sure it is easy enough to change the club trainers between 10 and 11 speed… or even 9. I use a couple of spacers on mine for 9 cogs. I’d think there is probably one spacer for the 10.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantHi Colin,
I think George said he had one of the club ones but wasn’t using it. Maybe ask him.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantAye, soaked and frozen before the start… and nae notion for anything other than getting it finished, get dried off and home for a warm shower. Never liked the cauld and wet.
Good photos Colin and thanks to those who came out to cheer us on.
I haven’t seen any results yet… I’m just going to assume you won Guy 😉.
I’m going for ‘stupid’ Dougie 🙄. I suppose we were due some horrible weather after a fine summer.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantThoroughly enjoyed reading the report Dougie. The Bute Wheelers put a lot into organising this weekend and good to see it well supported.
Aye, I chose the hardest bit of the 2-up for spectating… loads of pained faces and oddly one or two smiles 😁. Loads of people shouting thanks for the encouragement. Poor old Steve was yelping with pain… sounded like you were whacking him with your bike pump… or elbowing him in the ribs.. definitely inflicting some sort of cruel sadistic pain (as always, an inspirational ride Steve).
Having decent form I was desperate to ride Scotland’s most scenic 10m TT but the dentist’s instruction was ‘relax for a few days and DO NOT EXERCISE’… got to give the bovine bone graft and titanium screw the best chance of succes 🐄.
Well done all who took part.
Hopefully back to the teas, coffees, soup, cakes, sandwiches and a more sociable event next year.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantHmm… I think you missed the overflow field Allan. Remember CTT limited to 120 so there’s a second lot. I think there were 166 finishers including the tandem riders… and there were four riders in the overflow who beat us.
We were possibly 9th and 10th which was still very good.
Cheers, Gordon G.
