Christopher StaplesParticipant
Not sure on the parking – it covers a big area and I don’t think it is likely to be used in the vast majority by anyone who is not shopping as I do not think there is a lot else around there. The parking is free and I think there is a secondary south car park as well. Without being able to say for sure I think we would be unlucky to get nicked / clamped etc.
Christopher StaplesParticipantI don’t think anyone should worry too much about the climbs, we are not taking on any of the big Lake District ones except for the Whinlatter Pass and we are doing that from the easier side. Overall the amount of climbing is not large for the distance we are covering.
Komoot has a recommended pub for food just north of the A66 after about 70 miles which may be a good place to take a break (The Mill Hotel in Mungrisdale).Christopher StaplesParticipantAll sorted now for Saturday so will meet everyone at Gailes. Will put the route on my Garmin as well.
Christopher StaplesParticipantDefinitely interested – fairly familiar with some of these roads and sounds like a good day out.
Christopher StaplesParticipantI will have to give this one (and the week after) a miss as I am working in Brighton. Got bikes but no turbo so it is out on the real roads only for me. Back for the 15th March if there is one (that day also my latest birthday in an increasingly swift descent towards 60).
Christopher StaplesParticipantThanks for organising these Gordon, a good way to group ride whilst we can’t group ride…. I went to school about 5 miles from Box Hill, sadly I don’t think that gives me any advantage whatsoever. I also, about 20 years ago, bought a beautiful blue Colnago from the bike shop (Cycles Dauphin although I think it is called something else these days) that is on the road back down after the climb. See you on Monday (sort of).

Christopher StaplesParticipantI see that Glasgow Green CC run open events on Zwift (there is a TT on tonight I think). I have done a few open events from various organisers and each time you get kitted out in their colours automatically. From this I am deducing that if you run an open event you can get your preferred kit worked up and added to the game. Next question is how do you become a Zwift open event organiser and how much work does it involve? Not sure on that one but it would seem to be the best (and possibly only?) way to get your kit available. I think you probably need to commit to running and moderating these on a regular basis so it could be a bigger commitment than any of us is willing to do.
Christopher StaplesParticipantThanks for organising Gordon, enjoyed that. On the subject of keeping everyone together we have tried rides where the software is supposed to keep everyone grouped but it does not seem to work properly. I have also done rides with a red curtain that everyone is supposed to stay behind but I do not know if that is limited to larger groups? Before I get called a hypocrite Gordon gave the OK to go on the last climb and that last bit turned into good hard effort training 🙂
Christopher StaplesParticipantPuncture?
Christopher StaplesParticipantEnjoyed the run last night, good to ride with a group again. The humour, general p*ss taking and ease of reintegration into the bunch made the intervening 5 months seem like a click of the fingers, good to see that some things do not change….
