Gordon GParticipant
Very sensible Mikey. Safety first. Everyone might have got round ok but with the ‘Yellow’ wind warning, if an accident did occur we would look a bit foolhardy.
Frustrating.
Fingers crossed for next week.
Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantThank goodness you posted that last message Mikey. I was all set for this Sunday 🙄. (Wondered why it was taking so long for the teams to be posted 😄). I’ve been focussed on a retirement plan this last couple of weeks… I think my confusion might be telling me something.
Catherine, your job is to keep me right… hopefully we don’t get lost.
Ah well, it’s either an extra week of training or an extra week for gradual loss of fitness.
Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantAh canny believe you’ve given young Sean Joe instead of me. Good luck wae that Sean… better get a fire engine round to Joe’s house wae a blaring siren at 0800 in case he sleeps in.
I got absolutely battered by Thomas trying to hang his wheel on Zwift last night… I hope this doesn’t cause you ony sleepless nights George.
I’ve heard rumour that Peter McLardy has been trying to nobble marshal Jim Brown. Something to do with pointing the other riders in the direction of Troon for the referee’s usual ‘brown envelope’. Can this be true?
That MacDonald/Gillies pairing looks a bit suspect… it must have been a good Haribo bribe going on there.
There’s another rumour going round that Colin B is going to use Alan B’s ebike… and the rules say this is ok as they have the same surname.
Poor Ben… getting lumbered wae his auld dad. Don’t wait on him Ben.
Anyway, Catherine… don’t worry about doing any training tomorrow. I’ve spoken to my Met Office colleagues and arranged a tail wind both directions for us. We’ll be top 10 easy.
It’ll be winter woolies on Sunday morning. Chilly. Good luck all!
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantAny update on the teams for this?
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantI should be along on Monday.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantSean,
I think we have this in the bag. Going on my years of experience and incredibly good judgement I’ve got you down as the slowest of the fast group and me the fastest of the slow group. Mikey and Dougie canny fail to pair us 😉.Should we get some training in or just rely on our Rothesay effort from a few years back?
Aye, Looking forward to this.
Cheers, Gordon G. 🙄
Gordon GParticipantI’ll have a go Mikey.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantWell done Mikey and everyone else. Some fantastic efforts there. Good to see.
Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantGood luck all.
Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipant‘Ride to the Sun’… Let us know if you find it Jim… and maybe bring it back with you 😉.
Quite a challenge but the roads should be quiet. Hopefully the weather is decent.
Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantAye, It was a cracking day out Derek. A big thanks for organising.
Our group stuck to a very steady, sensible pace the whole way round. There was nae grumbling at any stage… no even fae big McCall 😉. (maybe a few grumbles from Ian… something about his saddle no being as comfy as it used tae be 🙄). Some fantastic views… as I said to BJ as we were going up the climb out of Gatehouse.. he never noticed as he was totally focussed and concentrated on the few yards of uphill tarmac in front 😁.
Alan Brown.. the cow thing. George telt me that Peter McLardy telt him that Mikey said young Sean just stood mooing and pointing and the coo fully understood and walked quietly into the field.
The weather was pretty much perfect today. I hope there was much praise for them folks at the Met Office 😉.
Aye, good to be back Peter McL… and we never mentioned the football once… although Derek is still going on about the last team to beat Real Madrid in a European final 🙄. My home team Darvel are in the junior cup final today… we’ve a 100% winning record against Derek’s team (just thought I’d mention that). Big Alec and I were at Darvel’s last junior cup final at Hampden in 1976. BJ was there supporting Boness. We’ll no mention the result but I hope that climb up out of Gatehouse was sair on you yesterday BJ ☹.
Cheers All. Gordon G.

Gordon GParticipantI’ve had a wee look at the 90k route. There’s some excellent roads there. The bit between Kircudbright and Gatehouse of Fleet follows National Cycle Network 7 and was well signed the last time I did it about 5 years ago. You’ve got to look out for the wee left turn where it goes through the Cally Palace. It’s only about a quarter mile before the A75 junction. This keeps you away from crossing over the A75.
The Gatehouse to Lauriston road was a wee bit rough the last time I cycled it a few years ago. Maybe it has improved. Great scenery and views if it’s clear though.
Here’s hoping the weather will be decent.
Derek, Are people going to post on here if they need lifts/car sharing?
I’m already organised picking Alec up in Darvel at 0700. One hour and 50 minutes from there to Dalbeattie.
I don’t know what toilet facilities are in Dalbeattie but there’s a Tesco with toilets near to the Dalbeattie turn off in Castle Douglas if required on the way there.
I’d think the 90k group could have an early stop in Kircudbright for a coffee. There’s plenty of bakers… the Paul Jones Bakery certainly does a take out coffee.
If Kirkcudbright is too early for a stop, the Galloway Lodge in Gatehouse did a great bacon roll the last time I was there a couple of years back.
We can decide on the day.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantI’m going to bring my pal big Alec along. He did the Lake District outing a few years back. He’s no got many miles in the legs… even less than me… but I’ve assured him it’ll be a steady group.
Cheers, Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantHi Derek, If nobody else wants to I can do it.
I know the roads down there quite well.
Cheers Gordon G.
Gordon GParticipantI’ll bring a helper along Fiona.
I’ll bring a brolly for the morning event and sun cream for the afternoon 😉.
Cheers, Gordon G.
