Bill Moore Time Trial 2019
This year’s Bill Moore Time Trial was won by Georgia Young (East Kilbride RC) in a time of 26:15, and by Dougie Watson (GTR) in a time of 21:08. Bill Moore was Fullarton Wheeler’s erstwhile and popular club chairperson and this event, named in his honour, is a favourite date in the racing calendar. Over seventy riders from as far afield as Guernsey descended on a quiet, early morning A78 looking to test themselves on one of Scotland’s fastest ten mile courses. Conditions were typically autumnal unfortunately, with a particularly gusty headwind on the five mile outbound leg from Eglington to the Papermill Roundabout. Fullarton Wheeler’s Frazer Bell looked good with a smooth style but the effort was visible. A 44th place time of 24:19 was a measure of the conditions. Likewise for riders Skinner and Shields, times of 24:02 and 25:41 were by no means a disgrace given the headwind. The return leg was a different matter with a strong tailwind and the rain showers more or less kept at bay. Fullarton’s Lorna Sloan achieved an excellent sixth place female time, speeding under the bridges at Gailes and Warrix to cross the line back at Eglinton in a time of 27:21. Allan Duncan was Fullarton’s third fastest rider of the event with 23:31, William Hanney was second fastest with an exceptional time of 22:37, but Club honours go once again to Gordon Graham who finished 14th in a superb 22:34. Well done to all riders and volunteers.
