Catherine Logan was in Linlithgow at the weekend, flying the club colours in the Superquaich round 2. There was an early start for the training session at 8.45 am which the organisers had planned for all those who wished a wee refresher and, following that, the newbie entered into the taster 30 minute race. The coaching was great – practice dismounts, remounts and cornering, all necessary skills for the upcoming race. I can think of at least one other club member who could do with some coaching – especially on (unintended) dismounting.

The organisers had warned the course was likely to be muddy but that didn’t happen. Instead it was a fast technical course with a little bit of rooty single track thrown in. The strong head wind made the climb and long straight hard work. Russell Mowat and John Lumley, who were in the pits, became hecklers/spectators as no bike changes were required.

Catherine finished 7th in class and 27th overall; an early competitive outing in 2023 throwing down the gauntlet to challengers in the FWCC Winter League which starts today.

Feedback from Catherine is that it’s a great course and very well organised event, she will be back again next year.
